Annan Seer Thittam: How Tamil Nadu Brides Can Get an 8 Gram Gold Coin and Silk Saree

In many Tamil Nadu families, buying even one sovereign of gold for a daughter's wedding means years of saving or a loan. Annan Seer Thittam aims to ease that burden. Under this scheme, eligible brides receive an 8 gram, 22-carat gold coin and a silk saree as a wedding gift from the state.
The scheme was announced in the Budget on 5 August 2026, and the government issued an order approving it in October 2026, with an initial ₹812 crore allocated. Here is what families should know and do now.
Annan Seer Thittam at a glance
- Gold: one 8 gram (one sovereign), 22-carat gold coin
- Saree: one silk saree
- Funds: ₹812 crore as the initial allocation in the 2026-27 Revised Budget
- Department: Social Welfare and Women's Rights Department
- For: eligible brides from Tamil Nadu getting married in the state
Who is eligible?
The government order says that the detailed eligibility criteria and guidelines will be issued separately. Here is what is known from public reports:
- The bride should belong to Tamil Nadu and get married in the state.
- Some Budget reports describe the benefit as being for women from economically weaker families.
- The party manifesto referred to families earning below ₹5 lakh a year.
Expect the usual marriage scheme checks as well, such as the legal marriage age of 18 for women and 21 for men. Use the final rules from the department to decide whether you qualify.
How to apply for Annan Seer Thittam
Reports say online applications are being arranged by the department. When the process opens, it is likely to work through an official portal, e-Sevai centres or your District Social Welfare Office. Until then:
- Ask your District Social Welfare Office whether applications have opened.
- Prepare your documents.
- If your wedding date is near, ask how the start date of the scheme affects you. The reported order covers marriages from the first day of implementation.
Documents to keep ready
The final list will come with the guidelines, but marriage assistance schemes commonly ask for:
- Bride's Aadhaar card
- Bride's age proof, such as a birth certificate or school TC
- Nativity or residence proof
- Family income certificate
- Ration card
- Wedding invitation
- Marriage registration certificate, if available
- Bank passbook
Register your marriage. Even apart from this scheme, a registration certificate is useful for many government and legal purposes.
How much is the benefit worth?
The value of the gold depends on the market rate, which changes daily. The order says the purchase price for the coins will follow the rate set by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association. For most families, the gold coin will be the largest part of the benefit.
Other marriage schemes in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu has had several older marriage assistance schemes for specific groups, including daughters of poor widows, orphan girls, widow remarriage and inter-caste marriages. District pages list conditions such as a ₹72,000 income limit for certain schemes and fixed time limits for applying. Ask your District Social Welfare Office whether one of them also applies to you and whether both can be claimed together.
