Deleted Call History? How to Check Your Call Records on Android and iPhone

You clear your call log to tidy up your phone, and then you remember you needed one number from it. It happens to everyone. Your phone's history may be gone, but you still have several ways to find the call details you need.
Here are the options to try, beginning with the easiest.
Check your phone's own apps first
Before trying anything else, look in places that may still show the number:
- WhatsApp or Truecaller: If the person contacted you there, you may find them.
- Google Phone app history: On some phones, your call history may be saved with your Google account settings.
- Linked devices: A smartwatch, tablet or Mac linked to your phone may have the recent calls.
Restore from a backup
On Android: Google backups can include call history on many phones, depending on your settings. Open Settings, search for Backup, and check when the last backup ran. Restoring usually happens when you set up a phone again after a reset, so do not reset your phone just for this unless the record is truly important and all your data is safely saved.
On Samsung and similar phones: Check whether your phone maker's cloud or backup tool has saved your call logs.
On iPhone: Call history is included in iPhone backups. Restoring an older iCloud or computer backup replaces what is on your phone now, so anything newer may be lost. Think before you do this.
Ask your SIM provider for your call details
Your network keeps usage records for billing and service. You can often see your own recent details in its official app or website:
- Jio: MyJio app
- Airtel: Airtel Thanks app
- Vi: Vi app
Look for options such as Usage, Statement or Call Details. You will usually log in with an OTP sent to your own number. Prepaid and postpaid users may see different options, and some details may need a request to customer care.
A postpaid bill often lists your outgoing calls. Incoming calls may not always be shown in the same way, so check what your statement includes.
What these records can show
Depending on your provider and plan, you may see:
- Phone numbers called
- Date and time
- Call duration
Contact names will not be there, because those are saved on your phone and not by your network.
You can only ask for your own records
Call records are private. Providers should only give them to the SIM owner after verification. Anyone offering to get another person's call history for a fee is either scamming you or breaking the law. Do not pay them, and do not share your OTP with them.
If you need records for a legal or police matter, go through the police or your lawyer. Do not use a private "CDR service".
Be careful with recovery apps
Many apps promise to recover deleted call logs. Some of them ask for access to your contacts, messages and storage, and may show ads or charge a fee without delivering anything. If you try an app, check its reviews and permissions, and do not give it access to anything it does not need.
How to avoid this in future
- Turn on your phone's backup and check that it runs regularly.
- Save important numbers as contacts as soon as possible, not just in your recent calls.
- Avoid "cleaner" apps that clear call logs automatically.
- If you need a long record for work, use a trusted call-log backup feature and store the file safely.
Common questions
Can I recover it without a backup? Often not on the phone itself, but your network's records may still help you find the number.
How far back can I check? It varies by provider. Check your app or ask customer care.
Will my call log come back when I change SIMs? No. Your call log is stored on your phone or backup, not the SIM.
Does a factory reset bring it back? Only if you restore a backup containing it. A reset alone will erase more data.
