Madhippumigu Magalir Thittam: ₹1,000 Monthly Payment, Status Check and Complaints

For lakhs of women in Tamil Nadu, the monthly ₹1,000 helps with groceries, school needs and medicine. It is also a scheme that attracts plenty of confusion. The name has changed, there is talk of ₹2,500, and the ₹5,000 credit earlier this year left many people asking why they did not receive it.
This guide explains what is known, how to check your status and what to do if your money has not arrived.
What is Madhippumigu Magalir Thittam?
This is the current name reported for the scheme earlier known as Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT). It gives a monthly amount to eligible women heads of families through direct bank transfer. News reports say that the June 2026 instalment of ₹1,000 was credited under the new name, and that the state had about 1.31 crore beneficiaries earlier in the year.
Your old KMUT details still matter, and you may still see the old name on portals and in messages.
Key details
- Monthly amount: ₹1,000, according to the latest reports we found
- Payment method: Direct Benefit Transfer to a bank account
- Usual payment date: around the 15th of the month
- Earlier name: Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai
Is the amount now ₹2,500?
A ₹2,500 monthly amount was a TVK election promise. Check the official announcement before you depend on it, as the reports we could confirm show ₹1,000 being credited. If a website claims that ₹2,500 has started, look for a government order or a report from a reliable news source.
What was the ₹5,000 credit?
On 13 February 2026, the previous government credited ₹5,000 to about 1.31 crore existing beneficiaries in one transfer. This was a single credit and not a new monthly amount. People who were not already approved beneficiaries should not assume that they will get it now.
How to check your payment status
- Open your bank's app or passbook and look for a credit around the 15th. Your bank's SMS alert can also confirm it.
- Visit the official KMUT portal.
- Use the status check option, and enter your details and OTP as requested.
- If the portal is busy, try again later or ask at your nearest e-Sevai centre.
Why your money may not have arrived
- Your Aadhaar is not linked correctly with your bank account.
- Your bank account is inactive because it has not been used for a long time.
- Your ration card or family details have changed.
- Verification found that your household is not eligible.
- The month's transfer may simply be delayed.
Start by asking your bank whether your account is active and Aadhaar-linked for receiving government transfers. This one visit can solve many problems.
Who is usually eligible?
The scheme is meant for women heads of eligible families. Earlier rules considered family income, land holding, electricity use and whether anyone in the family pays income tax or is a government employee. The current government may update these conditions, so check with your local e-Sevai centre before you apply.
How to file a complaint
If your application was rejected, or your payment has stopped:
- Note your application number and the reason given in your SMS, if any.
- Use the KMUT grievance portal where available, or visit the e-Sevai centre.
- Keep your Aadhaar, ration card and bank passbook ready.
- Save your complaint number and follow up.
You can also ask at your Taluk office. Staff there can often tell you the reason for a rejection.
Avoid these scams
Fraudsters use this scheme to steal money. No government officer needs your OTP or UPI PIN to send you money. Do not click links that promise "₹5,000 bonus" or "₹2,500 registration". If you have lost money, call the cyber crime helpline, 1930, as soon as possible.
Common questions
Do I need to apply again because the name changed? We found no announcement asking existing beneficiaries to reapply. Check your local e-Sevai centre if you get a message saying so.
Can I change my bank account? Ask at the e-Sevai centre how to update it.
Can a new person apply now? New registration depends on whether the government has opened applications. Ask your local centre.
